TBR Radio’s The Dixie Heritage Hour Sept. 28, 2018 – Gary Ayres, A Forgotten Few

TBR Radio's The Dixie Heritage Hour

In this week’s edition of TBR Radio Presents: The Dixie Heritage Hour Dr. Ed interviews historian Gary Ayres, author of A Forgotten Few.

Gary tells the story of Colonial America’s white slaves, whose lives and labor were extremely more difficult than that of their black counterparts, as the English had literally attempted to exterminate the entirety of the Irish by forcing them into a very hard and cruel slavery. Whereas black slaves could buy their freedom, Irish slaves could not.

Did you know that the first “Thanksgiving” took place in Virginia before the Pilgrims ever even landed in Massachusetts? Or that the history of Missouri actually starts in Virginia?

Gary shares stories of the famous citizens of his county, St. Clair County, Missouri, men like Jesse James, Cole Younger and Mark Twain. Then he talks about how our heritage organizations are actually dropping the ball in the ongoing effort to protect our monuments and heritage.
