One of Hillary Clinton’s leaked emails gives the real reason for the attack on Libya that toppled and killed Col. Muammar al-Gaddafi:
The email identifies French President Nicholas Sarkozy as leading the attack on Libya with five specific purposes in mind: to obtain Libyan oil, ensure French influence in the region, increase Sarkozy’s reputation domestically, assert French military power, and to prevent Gaddafi’s influence in what is considered “Francophone Africa.” Most astounding is the lengthy section delineating the huge threat that Gaddafi’s gold and silver reserves, estimated at “143 tons of gold, and a similar amount in silver,” posed to the French franc (CFA) circulating as a prime African currency (Foreign Policy Review, January 2016).
Libya was hoarding gold with an estimated value of about $7 billion. According to FPR, the attack on Libya was planned almost immediately upon discovering this gold and its purpose. Dirty tricks were used from the start. The most important was the announcement on 2/14/2011 by the former General Khalifa Hifter that there was an imminent coup in the country. Of course, there was no such plan. It was accounted, however, to give Libyans the impression that Gaddafi was about to be overthrown and to abandon him as a lost cause.
Hifter was a CIA asset in the Libyan army. After fighting against Chad in their long standing war, he was reloaded to Langley, VA for several years. He returned only in March of 2011 to lead the “liberation army.” This multinational group came almost from nowhere and was equipped with the latest western military materiel (FPJ, February 20, 2014).
The Libyan leader’s plan was to recreate North Africa’s economy independent of the West. His domestic policeis were purely populist: interest free loans for young families, free electric poewr, a $5,000 grant for each new child born, and every couple received $50,000 upon getting married. These policies were paid for by oil and the skill of Gaddafi himself. Refusing to accept the IMF and its agenda, Gaddafi’s days were numbered. Now, the country is a 4th world disaster area.
